Capezio Sponsors -- The XS Latin Team After returning from an exciting IDSF World Formation Championships in Moscow, the Capezio sponsored XS Latin headed to Blackpool to compete for the British National Formation Championship. After the biggest British National competition in recent memory and two rounds of excellent dancing from the Cambridge based team, XS emerged triumphant to claim its fourth British National Formation title. The win was also the team's most convincing, with 9 of the 11 adjudicators placing them first.
A fortnight later, XS once again boarded a plane, this time to visit Vienna to compete in the annual Danube Cup International for latin formation dancing. Nineteen teams had entered the competitions and XS Latin was delighted to make its first international final, achieving full recalls to both the semi-final and final and eventually placing fourth in this prestigious tournament. Teams from Austria and Germany occupied the medal positions.

Peridance Center, in partnership with Capezio/Ballet Makers Inc. is proud to announce it’s new location in the historic Beaux Arts-style building at 126 East 13th Street, near 4th Avenue at the beautiful Union Square area.  The center, officially known as Peridance Capezio Center has opened its doors.

This beautiful 3-story dance center marks a new era for Peridance with an exciting new profile!!

The Center houses six large, climate controlled, State-of-the-Art studios with professional sound systems and sprung floors, an in house Studio Theater, café 126 and a Capezio dance clothing boutique. All studios are completely column free, a unique characteristic in the New York urban landscape.

Peridance’s faculty is expanding!! Over 30 new, exciting and distinguished teachers are joining this world renowned roster of instructors, offering over 250 open weekly classes for ALL LEVELS in Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Theater, Jazz, Hip-Hop, House, Tap, Salsa, Flamenco, African, Pilates, Stretch, GYROKENESIS®, Taichi and much more.

Peridance Capezio Center proudly offers all major, traditional Modern disciplines including Graham, Limon, Horton and Taylor-Based.

The new in house Studio Theater, will provide a venue for established and up-and-coming artists to perform, and will serve as a home for the Peridance Contemporary Dance Company.

The building was originally constructed as the Van Tassall & Kearney Horse Auction Mart at the turn of the 20th century, and was the studio of painter, printmaker and sculptor Frank Stella from 1978 to 2005.

THE CAPEZIO BALLET MAKERS DANCE FOUNDATION SELECTS DESMOND RICHARDSON TO RECEIVE THE 60TH ANNUAL CAPEZIO DANCE AWARD

(Totowa, New Jersey/New York, New York): The Capezio Ballet Makers Dance Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Desmond Richardson as the recipient of the 60th annual Capezio Dance Award. The Foundation is a philanthropic organization funded by the world’s premier dance and apparel manufacturer, Capezio Ballet Makers, which will celebrate its 125thanniversary in 2012.

Awarded annually since 1952, the Capezio Dance Award celebrates significant contributions to American dance by an individual, company or institution. It recognizes those who bring respect, stature and distinction to dance and who exhibit qualities such as innovation, creativity and imagination. Desmond Richardson’s mastery across a wide range of dance genres, ground breaking accomplishments as a choreographer and dedicated commitment to expanding the influence of dance place him within the pantheon of prior Capezio Dance Award awardees such as Paul Taylor, Alvin Ailey, Merce Cunningham and Savion Glover.

Hailed as one of the great modern dancers of his time, Richardson’s immense talent was first recognized as a student at New York High School for the Performing Arts, during which time he received a merit scholarship from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center (1983-1986) and the International Academie des Tanz in Koln, Germany (1984-1985). He was also a recipient of a Presidential Scholar Award for the Arts (1986).

In 1987, Richardson joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater where he was a principal dancer for seven years. After leaving the Ailey Company, he performed with Ballet Frankfurt and as guest artist with several world-renowned companies, including Swedish Opera Ballet, the Washington Ballet, Teatro at La Scala, and the San Francisco Ballet. In 1997, he joined the American Ballet Theater where he performed the lead role in the company’s world premiere production of Othello, leading The New York Times to describe him as one of the most majestic dancers ever to tread the Metropolitan stage.

Richardson co-founded Complexions Contemporary Ballet in 1994, creating a singular vehicle for incorporating into dance and human movement a spectrum of methods, styles and cultures. He continues to serve as artistic director of the company.

In 1998, Richardson joined the cast of the Broadway musical Fosse, for which he received a 1999 Tony Award nomination. He has also appeared on Broadway in the musical The Look of Loveand the critically acclaimed Movin’ Out. He had a principal role in Soul Possessed, which premiered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1999. Richardson has worked in television, film, and video, appearing with such diverse musical artists as Michael Jackson, Prince, Aretha Franklin, and Madonna. He was featured in the films One Last Dance and the Oscarwinning Chicago. Displaying his multi-faceted talents, RichardsonmadehissingingdebutinCharlesRandolphWright’s2005 film, Preaching to the Choir and performed the lead role of Beowulf in Julie Taymor’s Grendel.

His recent honors include the Alvin Ailey School’s 2006 Apex award, the prestigious 2007 Dance Magazine Award and, at the invitation of the President of the United States, performing at the 60th Presidential Conference.

Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, President and Artistic Director of the North Carolina Dance Theater, will present the 2011 Capezio Dance Award and the accompanying $10,000 honorarium to Desmond Richardson at a performance by Complexions Contemporary Ballet at the Joyce Theater on May 24, 2011.

2011 UK Adult Formation Champions XS Latin competed at the UK Formation Championships in Blackpool on 26th June 2011 and Capezio are pleased to report that they are now 2011 UK Adult Formation Champions!

The Face of Capezio 2011 After months of searching across Europe, we finally revealed The new Face Of Capezio for 2011 at our London dancewear store in Covent Garden.
Congratulations to LAUREN RHODES from Windsor in the UK who will be working with us to promote the brand over the course of the year ahead. Lauren will become the star of Capezio Europe’s online and print advertising in 2011 and will be given the chance to wear some of Capezio’s latest collections before anyone else. She’ll also be kitted out in £500 of Capezio products – anything from our world famous ballet shoes to our extensive range of bodywear.
We had a massive response when we launched the competition back in July and the three finalists were invited to London to meet the judges and perform a 3 minute solo. Samantha Bosshardt from Portsmouth (UK), Teresa Torres from Pamplona (Spain) and Lauren Rhodes from Windsor (UK) were then given the chance to look round our flagship London store in Covent Garden and were presented with a free pair of Capezio shoes and a goody bag!
The judges were looking for someone with a passion for dance and Lauren definitely exuded it! We'd like to thank everyone who entered, in particular our two fantastic finalists - Sammy and Teresa who also performed brilliantly.
